Amid the ongoing fallout from Trump’s “shithole countries” comment, Trump took to Twitter today to dig in his heels and continue to suggest that he never said what countless sources have already confirmed.
Among those who verified the President’s remark was Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL), who was actually in the room with Trump for the meeting on immigration when Trump protested the arrival of immigrants from Haiti, El Salvador, and countries in Africa.
“I cannot believe that in the history of the White House, in the Oval Office, any president has ever spoken words that I personally heard our president speak yesterday,” Durbin said. “He said these hate-filled things and he said them repeatedly.”
To add insult to injury, Trump went so far as to claim that it was somehow on Durbin – who told the truth about Trump’s abhorrent, racist comments – that DACA talks are stalling. In actuality, Trump ended the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program in September, a move that was widely criticized for its inhumane implications. In many cases, people who had been in the United States for decades, who have husbands and wives and children here, are being deported “back” to a country that they were too young to ever remember.
Finally, in one final, absurd diversionary tactic, Trump claimed that our military is somehow being hurt by all of this. In reality, the Senate this year passed a $700 billion Pentagon bill, which is inclusive of an extra $60 billion for wartime missions in the Middle East. In fact, the United States spends more on its military than the next seven countries combined. Over 50 percent of the United States’ discretionary spending is on the military. In other words, our military is by no means “hurting.”
Senator Dicky Durbin totally misrepresented what was said at the DACA meeting. Deals can’t get made when there is no trust! Durbin blew DACA and is hurting our Military.

Trump has proven that he will go to whatever means necessary to distract, lie, and misrepresent the facts. But his tweets are as hollow as his understanding of the office he holds, and that rings truer every single day.
