Former Vice President Joe Biden hit twitter and took a swipe at President Trump in honor of Martin Luther King Day. There’s no mistaking his meaning here, honoring Dr. King’s legacy and highlighting how his example is more important than ever before.
Dr. King said that change “comes through continuous struggle.” As we celebrate his legacy today, we’re once again living through a battle for the soul of this nation. We'll win this battle by following his example: standing up, getting involved, and demanding our voices be heard.

There are any number of reasons for Biden to take a shot at Trump. The most obvious one for today would be Trump’s documented track record of racism. This, even though the President was recently quoted as describing himself as “the least racist person” to reporters in the White House Press Pool.
In recent days, Trump has launched racist attacks in all directions.
During an Oval Office meeting in which lawmakers discussed restoring protections for immigrants from Haiti, El Salvador, and Africa, Trump lashed out at the prospect of enacting legislation for those who come from “shithole countries.”
“Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?” Trump said during a meeting with Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Richard Durbin (D-IL), as well as those with more hardline immigration stances, including Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) and Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR), among others.
Adding insult to injury, Trump then went so far as to suggest that the United States should welcome people who come from countries like Norway. Trump met with the Norwegian Prime Minister yesterday. The difference, of course, is that Norwegians are overwhelmingly caucasian, whereas those from Haiti, El Salvador, and Africa are not.
And that’s only the most recent count of racism.
Trump’s first year as president has been peppered with egregious examples of racism near daily. Whether he’s dog whistling to White Nationalists and Nazis by condoning their actions at a rally in Charlottesville last summer, or issuing a poorly thought out travel ban on Muslims entering the country, Biden’s words are exactly what we need to hear a year into the most racist presidency in modern times.
